The passage of GAOA was a huge accomplishment for the outdoor recreation industry and the thousands of businesses, large and small, that makeup the $788 billion recreation economy. But we can’t let up now! The outdoor recreation community has an unprecedented opportunity to have its voice and priorities carried out through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and the maintenance backlog. It’s on us to work strategically with agencies to get the biggest Return on Investment (“ROI”) for their deferred maintenance projects, update entire recreation sites and experiences, and utilize Land and Water Conservation Funding for rural economic development and increased equitable access to parks and green spaces.
ORR will host an education session on September 9th at 1pm eastern featuring experts on federal funding and outdoor recreation infrastructure to complement this survey. Speakers will cover topics including: eligibility for LWCF funding, fundraising and local match requirements, project types, and connecting to community needs.
