Congressional leadership is key to ensuring Americans have continued access to high-quality experiences on federally-managed lands and waters – nearly one-third of our nation’s surface. The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee are responsible for statutes and overseeing policies that govern federal lands and waters managed by agencies including the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and more. The Wilderness Act, Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, and the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act are examples of legislation that falls under the jurisdiction of these committees – along with issues like the $18.6 billion deferred maintenance backlog facing the nation’s parks, forests, and other public lands and waters.
Find out more about four key leaders of these committees – three of them serving in new roles during the 116th Congress – and links to the committees by visiting the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable’s “Meet the Federal Leaders in Outdoor Recreation.”
