Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR), the nation’s leading coalition of outdoor recreation businesses, today applauded the formation of the Senate Stewardship Caucus led by Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.). The caucus is a new bipartisan effort dedicated to protecting and expanding access to public lands and waters, recovering wildlife, and restoring habitat. Additional inaugural members of the Senate Stewardship Caucus include U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Katie Britt (R-Ala.).
Jessica Wahl Turner, President of the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, released the following statement:
“The new bipartisan Senate Stewardship Caucus reinforces that access to the outdoors and responsible stewardship are American values. ORR is proud to support this effort and looks forward to working with co-chairs Senators Sheehy and Heinrich to build a broad coalition to advance the goals of the caucus.
“We see it as an important platform where business, government, and local communities can come together to inform and strengthen forward-looking policies that sustain the $1.2 trillion outdoor recreation economy.
“Senators Heinrich and Sheehy are showing the kind of bipartisan leadership our country really needs right now as we face a lengthy government shutdown and know the impact it is having on people and communities across the country.
“Just as ORR and our partners continue to elevate the leadership and success of the House Public Lands Caucus, we’re ready to help grow this bipartisan effort in the Senate. Together, we can ensure stewardship remains a pillar of America’s outdoor recreation economy.”
